| Converting Locomotives |
| Märklinist or AC railroader? In former times when one was running an AC center rail layout, he didn't have a good choice of trains. Only Märklin was offering models for that system, other manufacturers' products had to be converted, because those firms didn't offer many AC locomotives, mostly they didn't have at all such locos in their catalogues. Such conversions could be more or less difficult, depending on the several locos. Today, most HO manufacturers offer their locos for AC. They seem to have succes with that assortments wich are more and more extended. Today, there's only a small number of "marklinists" left running only Märklin trains on their layouts, most AC railroaders see that as a very positive development. So, there isn't any reason to convert DC locos today. Isn't there? Sometimes tehre's a good chance to purchase a model for a cheap price or a very special version isn't offered for AC. I only present conversions which can also be done by not so experienced model railroaders and which go without any complicated works which would require special tools not everybody has. Of cours, there are also suggestions for improving locos. |
