Gogtram Trolley With LED Headlights

Alltough the firm no longer exists, most tramway enthusiasts still know the name "Gogtram" very well. This firm produced a number of very nice streetcar models.

Schweiger, a well-known dealer from Nuremberg, offered a special version of the two-axled Gogtram trolley in the livrey of the old "Nürnberg-Fürther Straßenbahn". The set consisted of a motor car No. 216 and a trailer No. 304. Schweiger still exists today, but the shop has meanwhile moved from the inner-city to a suburb, while the model train department was completely given up.

I could purchase that model at Ebay. Unluckily, these old models didn't have any lithting of the headlights yet. When they were produced, that would have required bulbs; today, however, it is better to use LEDs instead.

A view of the interior after the installation of the lighting. The LEDs with the resistors can easily be connected on the board. Please regard the polarity in order of a correct light change!

Another, closer view: the head of the LEDs was filed off to reach a better light scattering. Afterwards they were wrapped with isolation tape to prevent a lighting of the interiors. The small boards, on which the LEDs were soldered, have been glued on a piece of plastic to reach the fitting height for the headlights.

A really impressing lighting!

The model now looks far better when it is operated together with newer trolleys, which are equiped with lighting ex factory.
