These sites offer an overview over all Primex freight cars. On has to differentiate between simplificated cars and "full versions". The full versions have all details which the original Märklin cars have, so, these cars are also of interest for "real" model railroaders. There were even several versions which weren't available in the original Märklin assortment. There were also several discontinued Märklin models which lived on as Primex cars. One of the most interesting models is the freight car 4596: a double freight car (called "Leig-Einheit") - a revised construction, basing on the model 4542.

In most cases, the models were basing on the series 45xx (a sheet metal chassis with a plastic shell) and 44xx (the complete car made of plastic). One of the most important features of these freight car series is that they are basing on one standart chassis - one for two-axled and one for four-axled cars. The chassis does not being changed very much for the single models. But also some cars of the 46xx series can be foung in the Primex programe - the more prototypical and finer detailed freight car series of Märklin. Independently from these facts, all Primex freight cars got 45xx numbers, so the number does not show to what "wagon family" the basis model belongs to.

However, be careful with 45xx numbers as well in the Märklin - not always such models are members of the "car family" with sheet metal chassis and plastic shell. Many export models got such numbers - models basing on the Märklin cars #4415 and #4440. All these models had nothing to do with Primex, they were normal Märklin products.
