Trix Express Layouts On Train Stations

Nearly every train enthusiast knows them from train tours through Germany: old, 1960ies' style Trix express layouts in display cases, standing in many large train stations. After inserting a coin, one can choose one of about four trains he wants to run.

Rivet counters will put up their nose and call these layouts a "simple toy". But especially this, combined with the nostalgic flair and the old, solid technology is the real charm of these layouts in our modern scaled, prototypical and digitalized times!

These sites show pictures of the layouts at Cologne, Stuttgart and Würzburg. Please excuse that not all pictures are of first-class quality. They there taken through the panes of the display cases, moreover I had to use a flash because the lightening was not very good.

When I took these pictures, a young mother with two little children regarded this layout. The children were very enthusiastic so that their mother had to insert money for several times. I doubt that a single diorama, allthough it is finestly detailed, can amaze children in the same way this layout has done it. Have you ever seen childrens' eyes sparkling about a train which is standing all the time? Certainly not!
